Funding Resources sectionNew Subject Advisor for this Web Section - We are pleased to announce the appointment of PDG Aswini Kar, D3260, India as the new Subject Advisor for the Funding Resources section of the web site. Aswini replaces PDG Carolyn E. Jones. Please remove Carolyn from your WCSRN e-mail address books. In addition, the introductory paragraph for this section has been revised to reflect the revisions in Rotary Foundation programs. District Simplified Grants should be used for humanitarian transportation and Individual Grants should be used for grants to Rotary Volunteers. AnnouncementsIntroducing the Potential Rotary Partners Index - As we all know, many Rotary Clubs and Districts partner will various other humanitarian aid organizations as they perform their projects. The WCSRN has added a list of over 300 organizations that have resources that can be used to partner with Rotary projects. At a future date we will add a search mechanism so you can search by type of resource, location of organization, countries they support, etc. In the meantime, the index is an alphabetical list with a link to the organizations web site. If you know of other organizations that could be potential partners, please notify our WCSRN Partner Advisor, Mark WalkerPlease provide the web site address or a contact name and e-mail address. Additions to the WCSRN Yahoo Listserve - We are in the process of adding the members of the WCSRN who are not already registered with the Listserve. When this is completed, we will have over 500 members using this vital tool for communicating on the subject of humanitarian aid. WCSRN Associates - We presently have over 100 members of the Listserve that are not registered as members of the WCSRN. They consist of District WCS Chairs, District Grant Chairs and others who have an involvement or interest in the humanitarian aid projects of Rotary. We will hereafter be calling them WCSRN Associates and we will continue to encourage them to serve in some official capacity with the WCSRN. What's New - July, 2003This month's What's New will be a bit longer than usual because we skipped the June issue because of the International Convention in Brisbane. Project Definition sectionNew Subject Editor - Mark Allen Zober of District 2490, Israel is replacing Zen Moisey of D5370, Canada as our Project Definition Subject Editor. Zen was a member of the WCSRN Pilot Project, created by the RI Board in 1997, and made substantial contributions to the initial structure of the operational WCSRN. Mark has extensive experience in Project Management and is planning to create a series of Project Guides that will assist Rotarians in structuring and executing specific types of projects. Thanks Zen for your many efforts and welcome Mark. Projects Directory sectionProject Fairs and Exhibits - We have added the schedules for future Project Fairs to this section. The 11th Annual Central American Project Fair will be held in Costa Rica in January, 2004 and the 1st Annual Western Africa Project Fair is planned for Accra, Ghana in February, 2004. Rotarian Knowledge sectionNew Zone, Country and Area Advisors RIBI - With the annual change in the RIBI International Service Committee members comes a change in our WCSRN Zone 17 and 18 Advisors. The new WCSRN Zone 17 Advisor is PDG Ian George Rule, D1020, Scotland and Zone 18 is PDG Leslie Lee, D1260, England. Our thanks to PDG Malcolm McCarthy who served the WCSRN for both zones this past year. Canada - Because Canada has a national WCS organization and effort, we have interfaced the WCSRN to that structure, the Canadian Rotary Committee for International Development (CRCID) and their new Chief Administrative Officer, Kevin Webb will also serve as our WCSRN Zone 22 Advisor. AnnouncementsLanguage Translators Needed - Sometimes the WCSRN Office receives e-mail in other than the English language. In addition, there is always a need to communicate within the WCSRN members with different languages. We try to translate using the free AltaVista's Babel Fish Translation service that is available at . However, this approach leaves much to be desired in accuracy and sometime in the future, we would also like to have our WCSRN Web Site available in the seven official languages of Rotary International. If we are able to do a better job with the language variations, we will need a Chair for this function and many Rotarians who are fluent in the various languages. PDG Bert Clews, Zone 10 Advisor had an article in the May Rotary Africa issue and also made a presentation at the D9250 Conference. PDG Heinz D. S. Kounio, Greece Country Advisor has translated the WCSRN into the Greek language. We encourage all of you to make the WCSRN visible in your part of the world.
